PROFESSIONAL INDIVIDUAL AND MARRIAGE PSYCHOTHERAPIST YOU CAN RELY ON
If you feel the time is right for a change in your life, I invite you to read through my website and call my office for an initial consultation. All that is required on your part is a willingness to seek help.
ABOUT PSYCHOTHERAPY
Psychotherapy is a process of self-discovery, learning what you like or don’t like about yourself, and then finding ways to make changes. Change might involve recognizing and then learning how to let go of what you don’t like or what doesn’t work for you, but change might also be learning to nurture and grow the parts that you think are positive aspects of yourself.
In the partnership, Dr. Perman’s role is to help uncover and understand your life patterns and to assist you in creating and building better coping skills. As you learn more about yourself, you are then able to make healthier self-informed choices and decisions which can lead to a deeper sense of satisfaction and joy in your life.
Therapy can improve your ability to communicate as you learn how to more effectively acknowledge and express your thoughts and feelings. Also, it is common to experience improvement in your relationships with others, including family, friends, partners, and even co-workers as a result of your work in therapy.
Challenges of change, crisis, and trauma can be better dealt with as you learn to gain control of your actions instead of “knee-jerk” reactions. It is said that the Chinese character for crisis has two meanings: one is danger, while the other is opportunity. In therapy, you can learn to thoughtfully and mindfully move the situation from danger to opportunity. Fear and anxiety often accompany a crisis, but learning to manage these feelings leads to growth and exciting change.
Therapy can also help in the adjustment to medical ailments and the changes necessitated by these conditions; examples include heart conditions, diabetes, chronic fatigue, problematic pregnancies, and physical injuries. There is a powerful mind-body connection, and moods are often affected by the physical state of your body. Therapy offers someone to talk to besides family and friends, especially when you are concerned that you are burdening or imposing upon them. Therapy can also offer support when your support system is absent or unavailable.
INDIVIDUAL PSYCHOTHERAPY
In individual psychotherapy, people can learn to identify and gain control over symptoms and disruptions in their lives as they become more self-aware and understand their challenges and struggles. Anxiety and depression can create problems with others including partners, family, and friends, and make it difficult to participate in work and play activities. Individual therapy offers a place to face uncomfortable and frightening feelings and can help you find greater ease and pleasure in living your life as better coping mechanisms are discovered.
COUPLES AND MARRIAGE COUNSELING
Whether you are a married or unmarried couple, two friends or co-workers, or a parent and an adult child, relationships of all kinds often entail problems and struggles. Having a safe place and an objective therapist can help illuminate the problems which can then lead to the reduction of stress which can then allow resolution. Better communication skills can be learned; the couple can discuss issues with less tension; problems can be uncovered, named, and clarified; resolution can be reached.
